With China Airlines service animal policies, passengers who need special assistance can bring their service animal free of charge. While in the cabin, your service dog must remain at your feet and on a leash. Please note that only dogs are accepted as service animals. At least 48 hours before flying, be sure to get in touch with China Airlines to notify them of your travel.

Emotional Support Animals

For passengers flying to or from the United States and Guam, China Airlines will accept applications for emotional support animals. You must submit your application 48 hours in advance of your flight. Please note that these Emotional Support Animals must be dogs.

Documentation

The passenger responsible for the Service Dog is also responsible for any documentation that might be required at the destination. You will need a document indicating that the dog is a legitimate service animal. Be sure to check with your government ahead of time to make yourself aware of any import/export regulations that you need to be aware of. It might also be a good idea to schedule an appointment with your vet to gather all of the necessary health documents.

When traveling with an Emotional Support Animal, you will need additional documentation. Be sure to provide these documents upon check-in.

  1. A letter issued by a licensed mental health professional on their letterhead stationery that is no older than one year.
  2. The letter must state that the traveler has a mental or emotional disability recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) IV.
  3. The letter must state that the traveler needs to be accompanied by a service animal during the flight.
  4. The date, type and jurisdiction of the mental health professional’s license.

Be certain to obtain all veterinary documents, even for countries that you will be transferring in. For more information about the accessibility programs available with China Airlines, visit this page.
