In-cabin travel is the only pet transport option on jetBlue flights. Pets are permitted in the cabin if they fit comfortably in their carrier and under the seat in front of the passenger. The airline is committed to accommodating as many passengers and pets as possible, but there are several restrictions regarding carriers, the number of pets, and breeds. Here’s what you need to know to make sure you can successfully fly with a pet in the cabin on jetBlue Airways.

How to Book a Reservation for Pets in the Cabin with jetBlue Airlines

You may book your pet’s travel online, on the jetBlue mobile app, or by calling 1-800-538-2583. Please note that pets are not accepted on Interline/Codeshare bookings (partnership airline segments) regardless of booking source. jetBlue pet policy only allows four animals on each flight, but only three of these spaces may be booked online. If you are redirected because of a full flight, call the above phone number to see if the last space is available. Generally, this space may only be booked at the airport and 24 hours prior to departure.

More FAQ Information for Pets in the Cabin

Do I qualify for seat with more space when flying with a pet?
If you fly with an animal, you will not be assigned an exit row, bulkhead seat, Mint seat, or any seat restricted for under seat stowage. So while you’re guaranteed a seat with clearance under the seat in front of you, you must other purchase your own seat upgrade to access spaces with more room.

How do I cancel my pet’s reservation?
If you would like to cancel your pet reservation, call 1-800-538-2583 prior to departure. If you fail to do so, your fee payment will be forfeited. If you cancel before your scheduled departure, the fee will be returned to the original form of payment.

Are there any other restrictions in the jetBlue pet policy?
An animal cannot fly alone, and there can only be one pet per passenger. The pet must remain inside its carrier while at the airport and in the aircraft for the entire flight. It must remain underneath the seat in front of you during taxi, takeoff, and landing. Passengers should note that TSA may require customers to remove their pet from its carrier to move through the TSA checkpoint.

Are there any additional carrier requirements?
The carrier should not exceed 17”L x 12.5”W x 8.5”H, and the combined weight of your animal and the carrier may not exceed 20lbs. The carrier must have a leak-proof bottom and must be well ventilated. Both soft- and hard-sided carriers are acceptable, but we recommend opting for the soft-sided option for in-cabin transit. One container is allowed per traveler and will stand in as their carry-on item. If the carrier is in such a condition that it may allow the animal to escape, it will not be accepted.

If your carrier is not in good shape or is too large for air travel, jetBlue offers custom pet carriers for purchase online and at the airport.

What should I bring with me?
The jetBlue pet policy provides a list of materials you should bring for a smooth trip. This includes:

  • Necessary vaccinations and documentation
  • ID tags
  • Pet license
  • Approved pet carrier
  • Pet snacks and treats
