OAK Airport Pet Cargo Locations

If you are flying your animal as air cargo, then you will not drop him off or pick him up at the terminal, but instead, you will need to go to the airport’s cargo facility. Although the Oakland Airport cargo facilities are open 24 hours a day, it is best to follow the recommended pickup times for your airline company, which you will receive when you book your animal’s shipment. This is to ensure that your animal has been fed recently and can re-enter yours or your recipient’s care as quickly as possible.

More Oakland International Airport Pet Policies

The Oakland Airport has a similar pet policy to other major U.S. airports. The rules are simple and based on common sense. Keep him on a leash or in a crate at all times when you’re on the airport campus. In general, make sure that your animal only does its business where it is allowed and clean up afterward. We recommend that all animal handlers keep a couple of spare plastic bags on them just in case.

When it comes to security, there are still no real surprises. Any animal you bring into the airport must have a ticket to fly or be registered to fly on your plane with you. This includes service animals and emotional support animals. In order to get your pet or service animal registered, you will need to go through your airliner and register them with your flight. It’s best to do this as quickly as possible, because you might have to gather specific documents based on where you will be going and what type of animal you have.

When you reach security, and especially once you are in the secured portion of the airport, your pet must always be on a leash, and preferably he should be in a carrier. Service animals are not expected to be in a carrier, but they should be leashed at all times. You and your animals will still be subject to security screening, but your pet will not have to go through the X-ray machines. Instead, in most cases you will walk together through the metal detector.
