The Oakland Airport has a similar pet policy to other major U.S. airports. The rules are simple and based on common sense. When you reach security, and especially once you are in the secured portion of the airport, your pet must always be on a leash, and preferably he should be in a carrier. Service animals are not expected to be in a carrier, but they should be leashed at all times. You and your animals will still be subject to security screening, but your pet will not have to go through the X-ray machines. Instead, in most cases you will walk together through the metal detector.
