DFW Airport Service Animal Policies

Assistance animals are welcome to travel with passengers who have disabilities. Certain exemptions are provided to these animals, but some rules and restrictions still apply. To determine if your dog qualifies to be certified as a Psychiatric Service Dog and can be accepted as such for air travel, you can visit Pettable’s PSD service.

DFW Airport Pet Policy and Animal Relief Areas

As part of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport pet policy, 11 pet relief areas are located throughout the airport. You’ll find outdoor pet relief areas outside of the airport terminal near the corresponding gate locations: A8, C2, C39, D15, D29, E2, and E38. You’ll find indoor pet relief areas located near gates A29, B28, D18, and E31.

The DFW Airport pet policy requires pets to be on leash at all times. You must have an appropriate pet carrier with you during travel.

DFW Pet Policy, Pet Cargo, and Facility Locations

DFW Airport pet policy allows you to fly a pet in the cargo hold under limited circumstances. Some airlines will permit your pet to fly as checked baggage by using the ticketing counter and excess baggage claim. Others require pets to fly as cargo including drop-off and pick-up at the cargo facility, rather than the airport terminal.

Flying a pet into Dallas/Fort Worth Airport as cargo is also limited by the weather and climate. You may have trouble with summer itineraries in the middle of the day where the forecast is regularly above the 85-degree threshold.

When dropping off or picking up a pet traveling as cargo, you may want to leave a little early. A Redevelopment Plan for DFW cargo, known as Cargo City, means you may have to take detours to get around construction areas. The airline or pet shipping service should also provide you with the relevant information, but you can use the following locations and contact information to know where you’re going.

More DFW Airport Pet Policies and Resources

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is one of the largest travel and air freight hubs in the country. It caters to a huge selection of travelers including those with pets. So long as you can navigate the airport and leave a little extra time to deal with road traffic, construction, and airport congestion, you won’t have much trouble finding common travel resources. If you’re also looking for overnight lodging for a pet near Dallas/Fort Worth, you’ll want to check out Paradise 4 Paws.

Some of the individual pet relief areas aren’t the best. Some would say a glorified litter box inside a parking garage does not make for a pet relief area. Nevertheless, DFW Airport pet policies and the overall number of stations make this airport pretty pet-friendly, especially for cats and small dogs that are eligible for carry-on pet travel.
