San Jose Airport Service Animal Policies

Assistance animals are welcome to travel with passengers who have disabilities. Certain exemptions are provided to these animals, but some rules and restrictions still apply. To determine if your dog qualifies to be certified as a Psychiatric Service Dog and can be accepted as such for air travel, you can visit Pettable’s PSD service.

San Jose Airport Pet Relief Areas

Traveling with animals can be a stressful experience, especially when you have to bring your dog or cat through a busy airport, like San Jose International. With so much activity and foreign smells, it might be just as difficult, if not more so, for the animal than the passenger. You need to know the San Jose Airport pet policies and relief areas ahead of time.

One of the best ways the airport can help make your travel experience go smoothly and as painless as possible is to set aside a patch of grass or dedicate an indoor space for pets to relieve themselves. The pet policy at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport has taken this into account and created not one, but four pet relief areas for the comfort of pets and their parents alike. Plan your route through the airport before you get there by finding pet relief areas at San Jose Airport.

SJC Airport Pet Cargo and Airline Locations

Many airlines offer shipment of live animals as one of their available services. If your pet arrived into San Jose International as cargo, then you will need to pick him up at the cargo building, which is located south of Terminal B. You can get to this building by making a right off of Airport Boulevard. Please note that this building is not accessible by walking. Call the airliner your pet flew in with for specific details about your live animal shipment.

More San Jose Airport Pet Policies

Every airport has slightly different policies when it comes to traveling through their terminals with animals. When you travel with a pet through San Jose International, make sure that you keep it in a carrier right until it’s time for you to go through security. Your pet’s carrier will need to be scanned through the X-ray, so you will either have to carry your pet in your arms or walk it on a leash through the metal detectors. For the safety of your pet, and to soothe him in the busy airport, make sure that he stays in the carrier after security and when not using the pet relief areas. It’s easy for small animals to become distressed in large, busy spaces. This rule does not apply to a service animal, but you should keep your dog on a leash while in the airport.
