Chicago Midway Airport Service Animal Policies

Assistance animals are welcome to travel with passengers who have disabilities. Certain exemptions are provided to these animals, but some rules and restrictions still apply. To determine if your dog qualifies to be certified as a Psychiatric Service Dog and can be accepted as such for air travel, you can visit Pettable’s PSD service.

Chicago Midway Airport Pet Policy and Relief Areas

There are two pet relief areas at Midway International Airport—one indoors and one outdoors. The outdoor option is located at the south end of the Lower Level terminal drive (near Baggage Carousel #8), turn right, and walk just past the bus stop. The indoor facility is in the A Concourse just across from Gate A-5. Though small (just 2’x4’), it contains artificial grass, a miniature fire hydrant, and an automatic flushing system.

The Chicago Midway International Airport pet policy allows pets to be outside of crates and carriers only during security screenings and while utilizing a pet relief area. These easily accessible options provide the opportunity for your dog to get out and stretch his legs.

MDW Pet Policy and Cargo Locations

If your animal is traveling as checked baggage, you’ll drop them off at the airline counter or pick them up in the excess baggage section of the general bag claim area. Otherwise, if your pet is traveling to and from Chicago as cargo, Midway Airport pet policy requires you to pick him up from your airline’s cargo facility.

Though difficult at most airports, this is surprisingly easy at Midway. The small airport has only two commercial cargo buildings, allowing you to easily locate where you need to go. Additionally, though there is no shuttle to these buildings, they are easily accessible by car and foot. Per Chicago Midway Airport pet policy, you should head to the designated cargo facility as soon as you collect your baggage.

More About Chicago Midway Airport Pet Policy

Though it has just two pet relief areas, Midway is a surprisingly pet-friendly airport. Both relief areas are centrally-located, and the indoor facility is just a short walk from your gate—regardless of your airline. However, the small airport sees a lot of passenger traffic, meaning you will likely be among one of many travelers with an animal. The animal relief spaces are small, allowing just one dog at a time; as a result, a line might form. Stay patient and assuage your pup with treats.

Chicago Midway pet policy restricts animals to their carriers, but green spaces are available on three of the airport’s four border streets. If you find yourself in a bind, step outside the airport to utilize one of the public spaces along W 63rd Street, S Cicero Avenue, or Minuteman Park (on S Central Avenue).
